Éditorial/The Jovenel Moïse Case: When Justice Crosses the Ocean

Éditorial/The Jovenel Moïse Case: When Justice Crosses the Ocean

The darkest political and judicial saga in Haiti’s contemporary history has just taken a decisive turn. According to recent reports by the *Miami Herald*, Joseph Félix Badio and the Colombian mercenaries who remained on Haitian soil have been taken into custody by the United States. This dramatic twist is far from a simple transfer of detainees; it stands as
a ruthless indictment of our national institutions’ chronic inability to shed light on the magnicide of July 7, 2021.

By taking control of these key suspects, Washington has definitively seized the reins of an investigation that had long stalled in Port-au-Prince. While this extradition offers a glimmer of hope that the truth will finally emerge, it also leaves a bitter taste. What message are we sending to the world when justice for the assassination of a Haitian president must be delivered in a Florida courtroom? It reflects a battered sovereignty and a fractured national judicial system, incapable of safeguarding its own secrets or punishing its own perpetrators.

Yet, the Haitian people deserve the truth. Not a truth filtered through foreign geopolitical interests, but the raw, unadulterated truth about the masterminds and accomplices of this heinous crime. History is watching us, and silence or resignation is not an option.

As the geopolitical pieces shift on the international stage, our commitment to you remains unwavering. Now more than ever, we observe, analyze, and report. Because the quest for justice in Haiti demands unyielding vigilance.
